Dr. William Phillips grew up in Denton, TX, and became inspired to pursue a career in oral surgery by his uncle, who was a surgeon. He enjoyed taking things apart as a kid, fixing things, puzzles, and putting things back together. After watching his uncle enjoy his job of helping people, Dr. Phillips became interested in working with his hands and helping others.
Dr. Phillips assists with the oral surgical residency program, maintains hospital privileges, and is on call for trauma cases at Baylor University Medical Center. He is also a faculty member at Texas A&M College of Dentistry in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He attended Texas A&M University and completed his undergraduate studies with a degree in zoology in 1993. Dr. Phillips went on to Baylor College of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1997 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. He continued his studies by attending Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and earned his medical degree.
All oral surgeons are required to complete an oral and maxillofacial surgical residency program, during which they gain valuable training and experience in the administration of anesthesia and oral surgery procedures. Before enrolling in a surgical residency program, Dr. Phillips participated in a one-year general surgery internship at the University of Arkansas. He enrolled at Baylor University Medical Center (Baylor College of Dentistry) after the internship, finishing the oral and maxillofacial surgical program in 2003.
Dr. Phillips has been certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 2006. Earning this certification exemplifies Dr. Phillips’ extensive knowledge of the biological practices of the oral and maxillofacial specialty. To remain certified, he must keep up with the latest techniques and continually prove his skills and expertise.
Dr. Phillips spends a lot of time with his family and kids outside of his practice. He enjoys running marathons, riding his motorcycle, and traveling with his family. He is also an avid basketball fan.
